Come see the fecNtrak layout set up at the Catherine Schweinsberg Rood Central Library in Cocoa, FL. The layout will be from open fom 10am to 3:30 pm. Kids from 8 to 80+ are welcome to come and be an engineer and run trains on our version of the FEC. Admission is free.
The fecNtrak layout will be set up during the Valiant Air Command Warbird Museum Veterans Day Weekend Open House. The event is open from 9-5 both days with the layout running throughout the event. Admission to the museum is free both days if you are a Florida Resident, active military, or a veteran.
This year's event will be held on Saturday, July 20 at the Catherine Schweinsberg Rood Central Library in Cocoa, FL. The event runs from 10 AM - 3:30 PM.
10AM-12PM In the morning, the fecNtrak layout will play host to a demonstration of prototype operations. Learn how operations run and what are on the trains. Caboose Mikey will be providing commentary and answering questions on operations, why trains run they way they do, and updates on the Florida East Coast Railway.
12PM-1PM Train Talk: Historian and railroad memorabilia collector Jerry Groothouse will be giving a presentation on the end of passenger service on the Florida East Coast Railway. He will have a selection of artifacts and photographs that were saved from stations along the central section of the railroad shortly after the end of passenger service. A former FEC employee from the 1960s may also be present to talk about his time working for the railroad.
1PM-3:30PM Kids run trains! Kids both young and old can team up with one of our model train operators to run a train on the fecNtrak layout and become a junior engineer. Jerry Groothouse, the lifelong model train and memorabilia collector, will be available to identify and appraise your model trains and memorabilia.
